Finnish Music Concert
A concert of Finnish Music is being offered on Saturday, June 14th, in Trumansburg. Three American and Finnish bands, playing in Finnish style, will be presented. This is a rare opportunity to experience and enjoy some of the Finnish flavor of the Finger Lakes region. The featured performers will be the Sillanpää Family of Lahti, Finland, Seppo Sillanpää and his teenage daughters Jemina and Selina. Their triple Finnish fiddling and vocal harmonies thrilled Ithaca concert and dance audiences during their 1995 tour of our area. Also performing will be the duo Nordika, consisting of Niles and Debbie Hokkanen from Winchester, Virginia. With Niles on mandolin and his wife Debbie on accordion and fiddle, they will entertain with Finnish music from ancient to modern. Rounding out the evening will be our own Crumtown Ramblers, with their old time Finnish dance hall sound.
Admission is $5 per person at the door. Ages 16 and under will be
admitted free. The Trumansburg Conservatory is located on the corner
of Congress and McLallen Streets, behind the bank in Trumansburg. For
more info, call 607-387-4854.
[The Sillanpää Family will also be performing at the Ithaca Festival on Friday, May 30 from 6:15-7:15, and are also appearing at the June 6 contra dance at the Montessori School. Don't miss them! - Ed.] |
