Named after an old Canadian term for rotgut whiskey, Tanglefoot, even in its name, combines the outrageous and folkloric. This five-piece band from Ontario has been shaking up the folk and acoustic music scene on both sides of the border and two sides of the ocean for over two decades. The music is as big, wild, and "thunderously energetic" as its members. Its unique form of "new traditional" music has distinctly Canadian roots and universal appeal.

Inspired by a love of history and music, and compelled by a sense of the dramatic and fun, the band began by playing traditional Canadian music, but quickly started adding its own songs, which have since been called the "best in the business." Always colorful, the band has that rare talent of sounding loud, cutting-edge, and passionate, yet still true to the spirit of traditional music. Its members, Joe Grant on fiddle, Steve Ritchie on guitar, Al Parrish on upright bass, Rob Ritchie on keyboards, and Terry Young on mandolin and guitar, are as tight and polished in their musicianship as they are high-voltage and exorbitant in performance. Lead vocals shift through the band, and harmonies reverberate with power and passion.

Winner of last year's "Best of Bound for Glory" award, Tanglefoot is no stranger to Ithaca audiences. Please join the Cornell Folk Song Club in a hearty welcome for our vigorous, hair-tossing neighbors from the north.

Tickets are available at Ithaca Guitar Works, Borealis Bookstore, Then and Now (I-Town) Records, and at the door. You may also order tickets online.
