Perennial favorites John Roberts and Tony Barrand will be returning to Cornell University. Ithaca is the place where they got started on their singing careers over thirty years ago, while they happened to be earning PhDs in Psychology.

The duo is still as lively and entertaining as ever, and no one interprets English folk songs, ancient ballads, and music hall ditties quite the way they do. Unaccompanied two-part singing, with amazing blended, often stark, harmonies, has always their strength. Some of their songs are down right silly, but they might follow a gently bawdy parody with a dark ballad or a Rudyard Kipling poem set to music.

Their performances, of course, are more than just their songs. John is also a master of the concertina and plays both Anglo and English. Out of his pockets, upon occasion, Tony is likely to pull out his musical bones and spoons. No concert by John and Tony would be complete without some stories and tales, extended whimsy, and other shenanigans. It all works together to provide an improperly proper look at the English folk tradition as well as great fun.

Come join the frolic and help the Cornell Folk Song get its fall season off to memorable start.

Tickets are available at Ithaca Guitar Works, Borealis Bookstore, Then and Now (I-Town) Records, and at the door. You may also order tickets online.
