Binghamton is fortunate to have a thriving community of old-time traditional musicians, with weekly and monthly Jam Sessions, a long-running Coffeehouse, and a lively Contradance scene. Among them is Fiddlin's Fun, the Southern Tier Chapter of the New York State Old Tyme Fiddlers Association.

Each monthly get-together features a short meeting, followed by a wide-open jam session, with everyone contributing and leading songs. The meeting often includes Guest Speakers and some of the best fiddlers around, who will talk briefly about technique, musical styles, or other aspects of the old-time tradition. Folks drive from as far away as Buffalo, Albany, Western Catskills, Northern PA, and the Tug Hill Plateau (north of Syracuse) to be part of this event.

Some common instruments played in old-time music are fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, dulcimers, string bass, autoharp, pennywhistle, flute, harmonica, accordion, piano and keyboards, but others often join in. Come to play, or just listen & enjoy!

Donations to Fiddlin's Fun are appreciated, and new members welcome, but it is NOT a requirement for attending.

Fiddlin's Fun has its next meeting on December 19, 2003, 7-10pm; starting in January, 2004, it'll be every last Friday of the Month.
