Contemporary singer-songwriter Dar Williams continues to inspire a growing legion of fans. With her recent move from New England to New York City, she has also moved to a more sophisticated, rich pop-folk sound, yet remains straightforward and accessible.

Not many acoustically-based folk musicians find their way into the pages of People magazine, where Dar Williams' Beauty of the Rain was named, "Album of the Week," in March 2003, or into Rolling Stone, which called her, "Ambitious and pleasingly plain-spoken." As her SRO live performances attest, she has more than "15 seconds of fame" staying power. Her insightful, emotional story-songs gently carry a strong message: be true to yourself and to your community. The Village Voice dubs Dar Williams a, "Thoughtful and funny songwriter," and the Boston Globe raves over her, "Lush soundscapes breathing wetly beneath her elegant, operatic groove and seductively conversational vocals: one long, loving lullaby for lives in trouble, peppered with useful wisdom." She is widely regarded as an exceptional wordsmith, one of the finest today.

Her most recent recording features an impressive guest list including Alison Kraus, Bela Fleck, and Cliff Eberhardt. "It can be a little lonely sometimes being a girl with a guitar," she says. "I wanted to reach out into the world and see what else was going on." Although she revels in her new urban home, previous recordings such as The Green World, End of the Summer, and Cry, Cry, Cry (with Richard Shindell and Lucy Kaplansky) are celebrations of the natural world and of personal landscapes that she makes universal. The intimate, conversational tone of beloved songs such as "The Babysitter" and "The Christians and the Pagans" speaks directly to her audience.

When Dar Williams last performed for the Cornell Folk Song Club, tickets sold out fast, so don't delay!

Tickets are available at Ithaca Guitar Works, Colophon Books (formerly Borealis Bookstore), Greenstar Co-op, Small World Music, and, if any are left, at the door. You may also order tickets online and by mail: SASE to CFSC, PO Box 481, Ithaca, NY 14851.
